Ashok Nagar is a suburb in Hyderabad. It is close to HussainSagar Lake and the popular Indira
Park. The R.C Reddy institute for UPSC and other competitive exams is also located here.
HussainSagar is a heart shaped lake built by Ibrahim QuliQutub Shah in 1563, during the rule of
Ibrahim QuliQutub Shah. It is spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometers and is fed by River
Musi. A large monolithic statue of the Gautama Buddha, erected in 1992, stands on Gibraltar Rock
in the middle of the lake. It also separates Hyderabad from its twin city Secunderabad. The
maximum depth of the lake is 32 feet.The lake was named after HazratHussain Shah Wali, who
helped to design it. It is an artificial lake that holds water perennially fed by canals from
Musi River. HussainSagar was the main source of water supply to Hyderabad before HimayatSagar
and Osman Sagar were built on river Musi.
Indira Park is a public greenspace and park in the heart of Hyderabad, India. The foundation
stone for the Indira Park was laid during September 1975 by Late Faqruddin Ahmed, the then
president of India and it was open for the people in the year 1978 with complete landscaping.
Indira Park is having 76 acres (31 ha) of area. The park is managed by the Hyderabad
Metropolitan Development Authority. It is located in Domalguda, a residential locality which
lies along the HussainSagar Lake. The park contains an award-winning rock garden designed by a
commissioner of customs and excise duty.
Ashok Nagar is well-connected by the buses, TSRTC, which ply on two routes covering most of the
area. The closest MMTS Train station is at Vidyanagar.
