Kandivali formerly known as Khandolee is a locality in the north of Mumbai. Some artifacts found near this locality prove that this area was inhabited around the Stone Age. Now Kandivali is divided into the East and West. Some popular areas to the East are Thakur complex and Thakur Village, Samata Nagar, Lokhandwala Township and Damu Nagar. To the West, there are Dahanukar Wadi, Tualskar Wadi, Mohite Wadi, Irani Wadi, Mahavir Nagar, Poisar and Charkop.

Kandivali has more of Gujarati, Jain and Vaishnav population with predominantly business class and working professionals in the area. In fact this locality is now termed as the Gokul of Vaishnavs. There are many posh areas in Kandivali like Mahavir Nagar which have elite clubs, malls, fine dining restaurants and the famous Jain temple. Kandivali has localities like Samata Nagar, which is one of the oldest colonies here. Poisar village, an old area, stretches around Our Lady of Remedy Church.
